Cast brass front and back identical. The two primary styles imported in large quantities by the north and south as part of British Enfield accouterment sets. Used by Confederate officers and enlisted men has been documented.  The belt for this plate uses a brass oval prong buckle used to adjust waist size.  Also, this is a 2" wide belt.  Some styles of the snake buckle are smaller.
