Cast brass plate with integral tongue and applied stamped nickel-silver wreath. Round recess cast into back to even thickness. Use of two rivets instead of stitching to secure eagle wreath plate. Dates from beginning of 1864. The “Hanger” providence is reinforced by the rounded interior of the belt loop and absence of a bench number. Worn by General Phil Sheridan during Indian fighting days.
